How to Adapt a Cat to a New Home
When a cat first arrives at its new home, the owner needs to provide it with a quiet and comfortable environment, which can reduce the cat's stress response and help it adapt to the new environment more quickly. Secondly, the owner needs to prepare food and water for the cat to ensure its normal life. Cats usually eat when they go out for a walk. Additionally, after the cat adapts to the new environment for two to three days, the owner can consider interacting more with the cat to foster a stronger bond. Generally, cats can adapt to a new environment within a week. It is recommended that the owner take the cat to the pet hospital for deworming or vaccination as soon as the cat adapts to the environment.
- Provide a quiet and comfortable environment for the cat
Cats are naturally timid, and a newly arrived kitten may experience stress. Therefore, it is recommended that the owner isolate the cat first and provide it with a quiet and comfortable environment, reducing surrounding noise. Also, prepare a clean and comfortable cat bed, lined with soft items such as blankets, which helps reduce the kitten's stress response. Moreover, isolating the new kitten can decrease the chance of disease transmission and reduce stress if there are other animals in the house.
- Prepare food and water for the cat
It is not recommended to immediately change the cat's food and supplies after it arrives at the new home, as it can easily cause diarrhea. The owner can prepare some of the cat's favorite food, which helps the cat depend on the owner quickly. As long as the cat has someone it can trust, it will gradually adapt to the new environment. Additionally, the owner can also feed the cat some foods that boost its immunity to prevent illness.
- Interact more with the cat
After the cat adapts to the new environment for two to three days and becomes less resistant to the owner, the owner can try to stroke it and interact with it using a catnip toy or treats, thus enhancing the bond between the owner and the cat. At the same time, the owner needs to spend more time with the cat and use treats or toys to divert the kitten's attention, helping it familiarize itself with the new environment faster.
