How to brush a cat's teeth

Brushing a cat's teeth requires preparing relevant items first, such as a cat-specific toothbrush and toothpaste. Next, the cat needs to be secured and held still using a towel to prevent it from scratching. After completing these preparations, you can start brushing the cat's teeth. Gently brush from top to bottom, inside the mouth. After brushing, give the cat a reward. If the cat has a bad temperament, it's recommended to take the cat to a pet store for cleaning to avoid the cat accidentally hurting the owner.

  1. Prepare relevant items

Brushing a cat's teeth requires a pet-specific toothbrush and toothpaste. Never use human toothpaste for the cat, as it can lead to poisoning. If the cat hates brushing its teeth, you can try using mouthwash or toothpowder with cleaning functions.

  1. Secure the cat

After preparing the tools, the owner needs to secure the cat. It's best to wrap the cat in a towel, covering its four limbs to prevent it from scratching. You can also stroke the cat's head and chin to make it relax. As the cat becomes more accustomed to it, you may no longer need to wrap it in a towel.

  1. Start brushing

Once everything is ready, the owner can begin brushing the cat's teeth. At first, squeeze a little toothpaste onto the brush and let the cat taste it to get used to the flavor. Then, gently brush from top to bottom inside the mouth. If the cat doesn't resist too much at first, brush some teeth daily, and gradually increase the number of teeth brushed each day. Never rush to brush all the teeth at once; it's better to do it in several sessions to avoid the cat's future resistance to brushing.

  1. Appropriate rewards

After brushing the cat's teeth, the owner can give the cat a reward, such as its favorite snacks or play with it using a catnip toy. This helps the cat associate brushing with enjoyable activities instead of rejecting it.
