How to completely remove dog tapeworms
Dog tapeworms are a common parasite in a dog's intestine. When a dog is infected, there will be white proglottids or eggs in its feces. To completely remove tapeworms, it is necessary to use topical parasite control drugs in a timely manner for emergency treatment. Follow-up parasite control treatments should be administered every 7 days or so until the dog's stool test results return to normal. At the same time, it is important to disinfect the environment, dispose of feces safely, and preventive parasite control. Ensure that your dog's diet is hygienic and avoid feeding it raw meat and drinking untreated water.
- First, use tapeworm control drugs containing pyrimethamine, nitroscanate, and benzimidazoles to remove tapeworms from dogs. Note that once a dog is infected with tapeworms, an internal parasite control treatment should be administered every 7 days or so until the fecal test results return to normal.
If the dog's tapeworm infection is severe, the parasites in the body can cause inflammation. Under a doctor's guidance, low-dose antibiotics can be used to treat the inflammation.
As long as the owner discovers the dog's infection in a timely manner and administers parasite control drugs, the treatment generally takes effect within 24 hours. After 1-2 days, the tapeworms can be expelled. However, if the number of tapeworms is high, it may take up to a week or even longer. Because parasite control drugs can only kill adult tapeworms, the eggs remaining in the dog's body require another internal parasite control treatment within a month.
In addition to killing tapeworms, external parasite control drugs should also be used to eliminate fleas. Fleas are intermediate hosts of tapeworms, and if a dog has a tapeworm infection, it usually has fleas on its body. The owner needs to deal with them simultaneously.
The owner should note that parasite control treatments should not be given to the dog within three days before and after vaccination to avoid affecting the vaccine's efficacy. At the same time, environmental disinfection is necessary, and dog feces should be disposed of safely. Avoid exposing the dog or other pets to tapeworm eggs to prevent reinfection. Avoid feeding the dog raw meat and untreated water, and regularly administer preventive parasite control treatments to completely remove tapeworms.
