How to deal with cat pica
Cat pica can be solved from three aspects: supplementing trace elements, adjusting diet structure, and cleaning up foreign objects. First, most of the causes of cat pica are due to insufficient trace elements in the body, so pets can be fed with special trace element supplements and nutrition tubes for pets to alleviate the problem of cat pica. Secondly, when feeding cats normally, it is necessary to provide food rich in nutritional components, and combine ingredients such as chicken breast, beef, fish, and fruits and vegetables to ensure balanced nutrition intake. At the same time, owners need to tidy up small items at home to prevent cats from accidentally eating and blocking their gastrointestinal tracts.
- Supplement trace elements
Most of the cats with pica are caused by insufficient trace elements in their bodies. It is recommended to supplement trace elements in a timely manner. For example, feed cats with health products containing main components such as manganese, molybdenum, and copper. For young cats, they can be fed with nutrition tubes and goat milk powder containing trace elements.
Supplementing trace elements for cats requires a continuous supplementation method. There will be significant improvements after 1-2 months of supplementation.
- Adjust diet structure
If a cat's diet is relatively monotonous, leading to imbalanced nutrition, it is also prone to pica. Therefore, it is recommended that owners feed cats with richer nutrition foods, and supplement with chicken breast, beef, fish, fruits and vegetables on the basis of cat food to meet the cat's nutritional needs.
If a cat's digestion is poor, it is recommended to adopt a principle of eating less and more meals.
- Clean up foreign objects
When a cat has pica, the owner must clean up any foreign objects in the house to avoid accidental ingestion by the cat. Additionally, owners need to watch over their cats and prevent them from rummaging through garbage bins, and promptly clean the cat's feces. Some cats with pica may also eat their own feces.
Note: It is recommended for owners to take their cats out for sun exposure regularly, which helps cats absorb calcium and is beneficial to their skin and fur. However, attention should be paid to the duration, as long-term exposure to the sun may burn the cat's skin.
