How to correct cat picky eating

  1. Reduce feeding of snacks

Many owners like to feed cats with cat sticks, dried fish slices, and other snacks. Because cats have a small appetite themselves,加上the indulgence of snacks, they may become reluctant to eat cat food. If you want your cat to eat cat food willingly, stop feeding it with snacks and other foods. When the cat is hungry and has no other choices, it will naturally start eating cat food.

  1. Increase cat's physical activity

Sometimes, a cat's picky eating may be due to overfeeding and lack of exercise. When a cat doesn't burn off its energy through exercise, it may not feel hungry, resulting in picky eating. In this case, owners can appropriately increase their cat's physical activity and play games that consume energy to tiredness. After the cat has expended a lot of energy, it will naturally feel hungry and stop being picky about its food.

  1. Feed cats on a regular schedule

If a cat's picky eating is severe, the owner can feed it regularly and quantitatively each day. For example, place the cat food in a bowl for 30 minutes daily. If the cat doesn't finish eating or doesn't eat at all within 20-30 minutes, remove the food bowl. Even if the cat is hungry and asks for food, don't give in until the next feeding time. Be firm and consistent. Over time, the cat will learn to eat quickly or face hunger.

  1. Enhance cat food palatability and mix in favorite foods

If a cat is picky about its food, the owner can increase the palatability of the cat food and mix in the cat's favorite foods. For example, chop up chicken breast, egg yolk, and other foods the cat loves, and mix them into the cat food. This way, the cat will eat the mixed food while enjoying its favorite ingredients. Gradually reduce the amount of favorite food until the cat is eating only cat food. This process requires patience and persistence; don't give up halfway or else all previous efforts will be wasted.

  1. Switch to high-meat-content and palatable cat food

Cats have sensitive taste buds and will refuse to eat food they don't find tasty. Choose a high-meat-content and palatable cat food to increase the cat's appetite.

  1. Feed probiotics

If a cat develops picky eating, the owner can also feed it some pet probiotics to regulate its digestion. Probiotics contain Bacillus subtilis and oligosaccharides, which can maintain a balance of gut bacteria, enhance gastrointestinal peristalsis, promote digestion and absorption, increase the cat's appetite, and improve picky eating.
