How to deal with dog tooth tartar and bad breath
Dog tooth tartar and bad breath can generally be treated by persevering in brushing teeth, drinking mouthwash, adjusting dietary structure, manually scraping off tartar, and ultrasonic teeth cleaning.
Firstly, if the dog's tooth tartar is mild, the owner can insist on brushing the dog's teeth and giving it mouthwash every day to help improve the dog's oral hygiene. At the same time, persist in feeding the dog soft and hard food that is suitable.
Secondly, if the dog's tooth tartar is severe, it is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital for teeth cleaning surgery to solve the problem fundamentally.
- Brushing teeth
Brushing teeth is the simplest and least harmful method to the dog, but the effect will not be too significant. If you persist in brushing your dog's teeth every day, there will be some results in about 3 months. Owners can buy special dog toothbrushes and toothpaste, and never use human toothpaste to brush the dog's teeth, as this may cause poisoning due to accidental consumption.
- Mouthwash
Some mouthwashes on the market also have a certain effect on preventing tooth tartar. If the dog's tooth tartar is mild, you can use mouthwash or dental powder to partially dissolve or slow down the formation of tartar.
- Adjusting dietary structure
Tooth tartar mainly occurs when food residues and bacterial secretions adhere to the teeth, often caused by long-term consumption of liquid or soft food by dogs. Therefore, it is recommended to feed the dog less soft food such as dog cans, wet food, and meat, and use dog food as the main food. You can also feed the dog some chewing bones or dental sticks to help clean the mouth.
- Manually scraping off tartar
If the dog's cooperation is high and the tartar is mild, the owner can use small tweezers to scrape off the tartar. However, this may damage the enamel and make it easier for food to stick to the teeth, causing tartar. Therefore, it is necessary to brush the dog's teeth more frequently to prevent tartar.
- Ultrasonic teeth cleaning
If the dog's tartar is severe or affects the dog's normal diet and life, it is necessary to take the dog to the pet hospital for professional tartar cleaning. Because tooth cleaning requires general anesthesia, it can only be done when the dog is healthy. After the tartar is cleaned, it is recommended to regularly brush the dog's teeth or use dental gel, mouthwash, or other products to care for the dog's teeth and protect its dental health.
