How to Deal with Ear Mites in Dog's Ears
Ear mites are parasites that live in the outer ear canal, easily causing inflammation of the external ear, highly contagious, and itchy. This leads to dogs scratching their ears, causing the skin to ooze, thicken, and form crusts. Common symptoms include dogs vigorously shaking their heads, sometimes even causing ear hematomas or edema, resulting in the entire ear swelling, inflaming, or having an allergic reaction. The treatment principle is mainly to kill parasites, clean the ear canal, and prevent secondary infections. You can consult a veterinarian at a pet hospital and purchase ear cleaning and treatment drugs.
Causes of Ear Mites in Dogs
Ear mites are one of the common external parasites in dogs. They are usually transmitted through contact and can infect dogs who have not undergone external parasite prevention and have come into contact with infected dogs. After a dog is infected with ear mites, there will be a large amount of dark brown secretions inside the ear canal, and the dog's ear will itch, with frequent scratching.
Changes in Dog's Behavior due to Ear Mites
Dogs will suddenly be afraid of being touched on their ears and will repeatedly scratch them. They may also frequently rub their ears against tables or cabinets, or occasionally shake their heads. These behaviors should be taken seriously.
Treatment for Dog Ear Mites
First: Remove all the hair inside the dog's ears, as the hair may contain mites. Second: Clean the secretions inside the ear canal, wipe the earwax with ear oil, and gently remove the earwax with a clean cotton ball after the earwax softens. Last: Use a bacterial and ear mite-killing drop, drop 1 to 2 drops into the ear canal, gently rub the surrounding area of the ear canal with your finger, and let go after 2 minutes for the dog to naturally shake its head and expel the dirt from the ear canal. Since ear mites are stubborn parasites, dog owners can apply medication multiple times a day according to the situation, persist in using it for a period of time until the foreign objects and odors are eliminated.
