How to deal with malformation of a kitten's hind legs

After discovering that a kitten has malformation of the hind legs, take it to a pet hospital immediately for a DR examination to see if there are any fractures or bone cracks in the kitten's bones, and then proceed with surgical treatment. If the symptoms of malformation in the kitten are mild, consult the doctor and gently massage the malformed area to help correct it to the correct position. However, if the symptoms are severe, the bones have healed completely, or it is a congenital malformation, the owner needs to care for the kitten carefully in daily life, reduce the high platforms that the kitten can jump on at home, avoid intense exercise, and supplement joint creams and chondroitin for the kitten.

  1. Firstly, the causes of malformation of a kitten's hind legs include:

    • Poor nutrition, infection, or parasites during pregnancy;
    • Exposure to toxic substances, consumption of inappropriate drugs;
    • Genetic inheritance or defects, such as the cartilage disease in Scottish fold cats.
    • Getting stuck in the birth canal or being accidentally pressed by the mother cat after birth.
  2. If you find that a kitten's hind legs are malformed, such as limping, take the kitten to a pet hospital immediately for a DR examination to determine if there are any fractures or bone cracks in the kitten's bones, and then treat it surgically. Otherwise, if the malformation lasts for too long, the bones will heal completely, and even surgery may not be able to cure it.

  3. If surgical treatment is not possible, the owner needs to take more care in nursing the kitten with hind leg malformation. This is because when the kitten moves normally, such as jumping high, it will be more difficult than normal cats. Therefore, the owner should try to reduce the high platforms at home, limit the kitten's activities, and avoid secondary damage. Additionally, the kitten can be fed some joint creams and chondroitin to nourish the hind leg joints.
