How to distinguish between a pseudopregnant queen
Distinguishing whether a female cat is pseudopregnant can be done through abdominal palpation. If the cat's belly feels flat and round when you stroke it, she may be pseudopregnant. Additionally, if the owner cannot confirm by touching, they can also take the cat to a pet hospital for an ultrasound examination to see if there is an embryo. If there is no embryo, then the cat is likely pseudopregnant. This is the most accurate method to determine whether a queen is pseudopregnant or not.
- Abdominal palpation
The kitten in the queen's uterus is usually a small lump, so the owner can use abdominal palpation to distinguish between pseudopregnancy and true pregnancy. If you can feel a lump-like object when stroking the queen's uterus area, she might be truly pregnant. If the queen's abdomen feels flat, soft, and round, it is likely that she may be pseudopregnant.
- Go to the pet hospital for inspection
The most accurate way to distinguish pseudopregnancy in queens is to go directly to the pet hospital for inspection. Generally, normal pregnant queens will have an embryo after twenty-one days of pregnancy, but pseudopregnant queens will not. Additionally, you can take the cat to the pet hospital for an X-ray after forty-five days, which can provide a more direct view of the number of fetuses. This method not only allows you to determine if the cat is pregnant but also accurately counts the number of fetuses.
