How to Tell if a Cat is Pregnant
To determine if a cat is pregnant, you can follow these steps:
- Observe if the cat has any signs of heat.
Usually, cats will stop showing signs of heat such as yowling and seeking attention from male cats after they become pregnant. So, you can first observe if your cat still has any heat signs. If your cat has not shown any heat signs for a week, it is possible that your cat is pregnant. Additionally, since a cat may show no heat signs even if it's pseudo-pregnant, you should also observe if your cat is willing to let male cats接近. If your cat doesn't want to let male cats near, the chances of it being pregnant are quite high.
- Look for physical changes in the cat.
After becoming pregnant, a cat's nipples will gradually become pink and its breasts will start to swell. This usually occurs around 20 days after pregnancy. Because of the uterine expansion, you can also feel a swelling in the cat's abdomen when you touch it. About 40 to 60 days later, the cat's breasts will become noticeably larger. You can even see milk dripping from the cat's nipples during the late stages of pregnancy, along with unusual behavior and constant licking of the vulva.
- Conduct a B ultrasound examination
If you notice any unusual symptoms, take your cat to the vet for a B-ultrasound examination. This method can not only accurately determine whether the cat is pregnant but also specify the number of fetuses, the development of the fetuses, and the expected delivery date.
