How to externally deworm cats

There are two main methods of external deworming for cats: one is to give the cat oral external deworming medicine, which can last about 3 months on the market. The other is to apply external deworming medicine to the cat, including drops and sprays, which usually need to be used once a month. For drops, evenly drop the medicine along the cat's neck skin, and for sprays, spray against the hair to ensure the medicine is evenly distributed across the whole body and let it air dry naturally.

Before using the deworming medicine, the owner needs to weigh the cat and decide the dosage according to the cat's weight. Avoid using too small a dose to achieve no deworming effect or using too large a dose causing strong side effects.

Oral External Deworming Medicine Usage

If it's an oral external deworming medicine, the owner can use a feeder to give the cat the medicine, making sure the cat swallows it.

Droppers

If it's a dropper, first separate the cat's hair on the back of the neck to expose the skin, then drop the medicine on the skin, allowing it to slowly penetrate into the skin. After dropping, cover the medicine spot with hair and put an Elizabeth collar on the cat to prevent it from licking the medicine.

The dropper can be used all at once or in multiple spots. If using multiple spots, drop the remaining medicine on different parts of the cat's neck. Make sure the cat can't lick it, and once the medicine is dropped, it completes one external deworming.

Sprays

If using a spray for deworming, simply spray it on the cat's skin, but be sure to avoid the cat's eyes and nose. It is recommended that the owner put an Elizabeth collar on the cat after using the spray to prevent it from licking and poisoning itself.

When using drops or sprays for external deworming, the cat cannot be bathed for two days before and after. If the cat has already been bathed, you need to wait a few days before deworming to avoid affecting the medicine's effectiveness.

Note: If the cat is less than 12 months old, it is recommended to externally deworm the cat once a month. If the cat is 12 months old or older, deworm it internally every three months and externally every month. However, if the cat doesn't go outside frequently and the owner regularly cleans and disinfects the house, the owner can interval two months for external deworming.
