How to Judge if Cat Scabies Are Improving
To determine if cat scabies are improving, you can observe clinical symptoms, use a Wood's lamp for illumination, and perform a skin scraping examination. First, if the color of the cat's lesion lightens, the skin returns to its normal color, the scales decrease, and the itching significantly improves, it indicates that the cat's scabies are improving. Secondly, if the fluorescent green under the Wood's lamp illumination decreases significantly, it also indicates that the cat's scabies are improving. Lastly, if a skin scraping examination is performed and the fungal cells and hyphae are significantly reduced under a microscope, it also means that the cat's scabies are improving.
- Observe Clinical Symptoms
Cat scabies are mainly characterized by itching, redness, scales, and patchy hair loss. Pet owners should pay attention to the following signs: if the color of the cat's lesion lightens and gradually approaches the surrounding healthy skin color, no longer spreads, and the small hairs begin to grow back, the scales decrease, itching decreases, and the frequency of the cat scratching itself decreases, it means the cat's scabies are almost healed.
- Wood's Lamp Illumination
If a cat has scabies, the lesion will present a fluorescent green under the Wood's lamp illumination. Therefore, the owner can reuse the Wood's lamp for illumination. If the fluorescent green significantly decreases or disappears in a dim environment, it means the cat's scabies are almost healed.
- Skin Scraping Examination
If conditions permit, the owner can directly take the cat to the pet hospital for a skin scraping examination. If the skin secretions from the lesion are stained and the fungal cells and hyphae are significantly reduced under a microscope, it means the cat's scabies are almost healed.
