How to treat canine coronavirus

If your dog is infected with coronavirus, it is recommended to first restrict food and water intake, and then treat your dog according to the methods of stopping vomiting and dehydration, anti-viral, and antibacterial inflammation. First, give your dog intravenous electrolyte solutions to replenish the consumed water and energy. If the vomiting and diarrhea symptoms are severe, you can use vomiting and diarrhea suppressants to alleviate the symptoms.

Next, use biological agents such as high-immune serum, interferon, and monoclonal antibodies to kill the virus in the body, and use antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections. If there is already a bacterial infection in the dog's body and inflammation occurs, add anti-inflammatory drugs.

Coronavirus is a highly infectious virus. If your dog is diagnosed, isolate your dog and thoroughly disinfect its living environment. Since dogs often experience vomiting and diarrhea symptoms, first restrict food and water intake, and then take the dog to the hospital for treatment.

  1. Stop vomiting and replenish fluids

To address the symptoms of dog infection, first administer intravenous electrolyte solutions to prevent excessive vomiting and diarrhea from causing dehydration. After the dog becomes ill, it may be unwilling to eat due to discomfort. Infusion can replenish the dog's energy and avoid insufficient nutrition intake after a long period of fasting.

If the dog's vomiting and diarrhea symptoms are severe, additional vomiting and diarrhea control measures are needed. You can inject anti-vomiting agents and feed the dog physically absorbent diarrhea remedies containing kaolin.

  1. Anti-viral treatment

Since dog coronavirus is caused by a viral infection, it is necessary to control and kill the virus during treatment. Clinically, biological agents such as high-immune serum, interferon, and monoclonal antibodies, and drugs containing astragalus polysaccharides are usually used to prevent rapid viral proliferation.

  1. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment

Coronavirus destroys the intestinal mucosal barrier, potentially leading to displacement of the intestinal flora and secondary bacterial infections. Therefore, it is necessary to administer antibiotics reasonably for dogs. There will always be an inflammatory response when there is a bacterial infection. Under a doctor's guidance, dogs can be given antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs concurrently, such as amoxicillin and cefazolin.
