How to Treat Cat Kidney Failure
In cases of acute kidney failure, a large amount of metabolic waste such as creatinine and urea accumulates in the blood and cannot be excreted, causing failure of other organs and even life-threatening situations. If the cat's kidney function remains partially preserved, it can undergo balanced fluid intravenous drip to increase the elimination of metabolic waste in the body. For cats with complete loss of kidney function, kidney transplantation is the only option, otherwise, dialysis must be undergone daily to maintain life.
Causes of Cat Kidney Failure
The main causes include: 1) prerenal causes, such as severe hemorrhage caused by trauma, severe diarrhea, vomiting, extensive burns, ascites, and shock. 2) renal causes, such as various causes of glomerular, tubular, and interstitial lesions of the kidney. 3) postrenal causes, such as urinary tract obstruction, injury, calculi, etc., causing renal glomerular filtration impairment, leading to necrosis of tubular epithelial cells and resulting in kidney failure.
Symptoms of Cat Kidney Failure
Cat kidney failure was previously diagnosed in older cats, but in recent years, there is a trend for cats younger than one year old to also develop the disease. Symptoms of cat kidney failure generally include lethargy, increased thirst, drooling, vomiting, continuous urination, constipation, and loss of appetite. If you find that your cat is not feeling well, it is necessary to go to the pet hospital for laboratory diagnosis in time to avoid delay in treatment.
How to Treat Cat Liver and Kidney Failure
First of all, after diagnosis in the hospital, fluid therapy and symptomatic treatment for liver protection are required to promote liver cell regeneration. The causes of kidney failure can be divided into three types: prerenal, postrenal, and renal. The first two can be cured by addressing the fundamental causes, but once substantive kidney damage occurs, treatment becomes more difficult. Therefore, if pet owners notice any abnormalities at home, they should immediately take their pets to the hospital for treatment.
