How to Treat Dog Interdigital Infection
The primary treatment for dog interdigital infection is to maintain dry and clean intervals between the toes. If the condition is characterized by simple redness, swelling, and pain, it is recommended to use anti-inflammatory and bactericidal drugs for dogs while avoiding excessive walking. If there is a purulent discharge, it is necessary to squeeze out the discharge first, then properly disinfect the wound, and finally treat with drugs that have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and swelling-reducing effects. Squeeze out the purulent discharge and disinfect the wound before each medication. Treatment must be continuous and on time, otherwise, it may lead to drug resistance and hinder the recovery of interdigital infection.
The treatment cycle for interdigital infection generally lasts for more than seven days, and the duration of recovery mainly depends on proper care. The specific treatment methods can be referred to as follows.
Improve your dog's living environment, maintain cleanliness and dryness, and make sure to dry your dog's paws after taking a bath to avoid moisture.
Fit your dog with an Elizabethan collar to prevent the dog from licking the affected area and causing secondary infections.
Clean and disinfect the affected area with physiological saline and metronidazole. If there is a purulent discharge, squeeze out the pus, and then spray the dog-specific interdigital infection treatment drug on the affected area or apply the ointment. Antibiotics and bactericidal effects.
If the dog's symptoms do not improve significantly after three days of treatment, it is recommended that the owner take the dog to a pet hospital in a timely manner. There may be a severe secondary infection, and targeted antibiotic treatment will be selected after testing.
Note: Dog interdigital infection is prone to recurrence, so attention should be paid to the dog's paw hygiene during treatment. Try to keep the dog's paws dry, clean, and hygienic. After recovery, regularly deworm your dog, and trim the long hair on the dog's paws to the same level as the paws after each bath. It is better to feed your dog natural food combined with treatment, avoid eating overly oily and salty foods, and pay attention to balanced nutrition.
