Is medical alcohol harmful to cats?
Medical alcohol is a chemical substance with strong irritating properties, which can cause certain damage to cats. Moreover, cats often lick their fur, and if medical alcohol is applied to them, they may have moderate reactions after licking it, and medical alcohol can also cause harm to their fur. It is recommended that owners be cautious about storing medical alcohol and prevent cats from misusing or misusing it.
The harm of medical alcohol to cats is significant because cats cannot metabolize alcohol. To them, alcohol is almost like a poison. Humans possess ethanol dehydrogenase and produce acetaldehyde dehydrogenase released by the liver, which together can gradually metabolize alcohol into carbon dioxide and water. Therefore, if cats accidentally come into contact with or even ingest alcohol, it may cause internal organ problems and lead to cat liver disease.
If you want to clean your cat, you can give it a bath after vaccination. You can use pet shampoo, but avoid using human shampoo because the pH levels are different. Using human shampoo can damage your cat's skin, and alcohol wiping can cause even greater harm. Alcohol evaporates and takes away a lot of heat, easily making the cat sick.
If you want to disinfect your home, it's best to isolate the cat during the process and lock it in a cage or another room. Then, disinfect the spaces separately, rinse clean with water after disinfection, ventilate and dry the smell, and let the cat enter the corresponding space. It is recommended to use pet-specific disinfectants, which are less irritating to cats than general disinfectants and pose less of a problem if accidentally ingested.
