What are the problems with tear stains on a kitten?
Tear stains on a kitten can be caused by various reasons, such as food, blocked nasolacrimal ducts, and infectious diseases. It is necessary to carry out symptomatic treatment in a timely manner. When the kitten has tear stains along with other uncomfortable symptoms, it is necessary to take it to the pet hospital for inspection. Regular eye cleaning and maintenance can be performed on the kitten in daily life, using light pet food as the main diet, and supervising the kitten to drink more water, which can effectively alleviate the tear stains.
Firstly, the high salt and oil content in the food usually causes tear stains on kittens. This is because the digestion and absorption of salts mainly rely on sweat glands for excretion, and the kitten's sweat glands are not well developed. Therefore, eating high-salt food can easily lead to the kitten's "heat" and cause tear stains. In this case, it is enough to improve the kitten's diet, feed it with rich-nutrition and low-salt cat food as the main diet, and mainly use light pet food in daily life. Do not feed the kitten with human food and supervise it to drink more water.
Secondly, blocked nasolacrimal ducts in kittens can cause frequent crying and form tear stains. In severe cases of blocked nasolacrimal ducts in kittens, it is necessary to take the kitten to the pet hospital for nasolacrimal duct dilation surgery. Usually, after the kitten recovers, the tear stains will improve. It is also necessary to regularly clean the kitten's eyes and check its eye health.
Lastly, tear stains can also be caused by infectious diseases in kittens, such as conjunctivitis caused by feline herpesvirus infection. After the kitten is infected with the herpesvirus, it usually shows symptoms such as profuse crying, yellow-green secretions in the eyes, sneezing, and coughing. In this case, the tear glands producing tears are infected, causing an abnormal increase in tear secretion and forming tear stains. It is necessary to carry out symptomatic treatment in a timely manner. During the treatment process, pay attention to keeping the kitten warm to avoid catching a cold and prolonging the treatment cycle.
