What to do if a kitten has a yellow runny nose
Yellow runny nose in kittens is often caused by a cold or a cat flu infection. Since the symptoms of cat flu and cold are similar, such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and coughing, it's hard to tell them apart from the outside. Therefore, it is recommended that owners consult a pet doctor in a timely manner. If the yellow runny nose is caused by a regular cold, owners need to pay attention to keeping the kitten warm and give it oral cold medicine. If the yellow runny nose is caused by a cat flu, it is advised to take the kitten to the pet hospital for professional treatment, which usually requires the use of antiviral drugs combined with antibiotics.
1. Yellow runny nose caused by a cold:
If the kitten's yellow runny nose is caused by a cold, the owner is advised to first ensure the kitten's warmth. Place the kitten in a warm room, use an electric stove or electric blanket for heating, wrap the kitten in warm clothes to prevent it from getting cold again.
Secondly, you can go to a pet hospital or other regular channels to buy pet-specific cold medicine. Choose drugs containing Ephedra Root Powder or those containing fruit root extract, and determine the specific dosage according to the drug instructions and the kitten's weight.
Additionally, owners need to provide the kitten with rich and balanced nutrition, or feed it drugs containing Astragalus Polysaccharides to improve the kitten's resistance.
2. Yellow runny nose caused by cat flu:
Usually, the symptoms of a cat cold are mild and can be cured with regular pet-specific cold medicine. If the cold medicine is ineffective, it may be caused by a cat flu infection, and it is recommended to take the kitten to the pet hospital for diagnosis in a timely manner.
If the kitten is diagnosed with cat flu, treatment requires using physiological saline to wet a cotton swab and gently wipe around the eyes, then drop in anti-inflammatory eye drops, and administer antiviral drugs and lysine simultaneously.
Additionally, since cat flu is contagious and can be transmitted to other cats, owners need to disinfect the environment in which the cat lives to keep it clean and hygienic.
