Labrador eats grapes
After consuming a certain amount of grapes, Labradors are prone to kidney failure or even death. This is because grapes contain a large amount of glucose and fructose, which are highly sensitive to dogs' digestive systems. Since the body cannot metabolize these sugars, it is very easy to cause poisoning. If you accidentally feed your dog grapes, pay attention to its mental state, stool, urination, and other conditions. If any abnormalities are detected, take your dog to the hospital for inspection and treatment promptly.
Can Labradors eat grapes?
Dogs cannot eat grapes. Grape seeds contain a cyanide compound that can lead to dog poisoning, and in severe cases, acute kidney failure, difficulty breathing, accelerated heartbeat, and death. Within a few hours after accidentally eating grapes, dogs may show signs of poisoning such as depression, vomiting, and diarrhea. The toxic dose of dog grapes is 36g/kg, and only 4-5 grapes are enough to cause poisoning.
What to do if a Labrador eats grapes?
After a dog eats a large amount of grapes, it is recommended to take it to a pet hospital for induced vomiting to reduce absorption of the grapes. Because grapes contain a large amount of sugar, excessive intake can increase the dog's physical burden and even cause acute kidney injury. It can also lead to severe symptoms of acute gastroenteritis such as diarrhea and vomiting.
How to detoxify after a Labrador eats grapes?
If the dog has eaten a small amount, it can speed up the metabolism of toxins by drinking more water. If it has eaten more and there are no obvious poisoning symptoms within three hours, induced vomiting can be used in time to make the dog vomit out the grapes. If it has been more than three hours or obvious poisoning symptoms appear, take the dog to the pet hospital immediately for treatment. The comprehensive method of induced vomiting, activated carbon adsorption, and laxative therapy is adopted to make the animal excrete as much as possible. At the same time, fluid therapy is supplemented to accelerate the metabolism of toxins in the blood.
