Reasons Why a Teddy Dog Won't Eat Dog Food
There are several reasons why a dog refuses to eat dog food. For example, it could be due to picky eating, overeating, a lack of variety in dog food, or eating foods that are difficult to digest. Parasite infections, gastrointestinal problems such as enteritis, and even infectious diseases can cause a decline in a dog's appetite and lead to refusal to eat dog food. If necessary, take the dog to the hospital for examination and confirmation.
Picky Eating
One of the main reasons why a teddy dog doesn't like to eat dog food is because it has eaten too many snacks and developed a picky eating habit. In this case, stop feeding the dog snacks and feed it regularly and quantitatively. If the dog doesn't eat within 15 minutes of feeding, immediately remove the food. If it doesn't finish eating within 30 minutes, remove the food again. If the dog still refuses to eat, take it to a nearby pet hospital for inspection. Don't hesitate to control its picky eating habits, as healthy dogs can survive without food for three days as long as they have water.
Parasites
A teddy dog infected with parasites inside its body may also experience a decline in appetite and refuse to eat dog food. In this case, the owner needs to timely deworm the dog. There are many types of dog dewormers, and commonly used dewormers on the market include Albendazole, Pyrimethamine, and Levamisole. When choosing a dewormer, pay attention to its ingredients, side effects, and reputation. The dosage of the dewormer depends on the dog's weight. If the worm is removed, another internal deworming is needed within a week. Afterward, adult dogs need to be dewormed internally every three months.
Disease
Inflammatory bowel disease, parvovirus, and other infectious diseases can also cause a dog to refuse to eat dog food and vomit or have diarrhea. In this case, take the dog to the hospital for examination and symptomatic improvement. It is recommended to feed the dog light and easily digestible food. The owner can also choose to improve the dog food based on the season and symptoms. For example, dogs with inflammatory bowel disease can be fed some prescription dog foods for the intestinal tract. In summer, when dogs are prone to get upset, choose dog food formulas with duck or other cooling ingredients. In winter, choose dog food formulas with fish or deer meat, which are good for hair growth and protein. This can also avoid long-term monotonous taste dog food pickiness.
