Symptoms of Cat Fractures

After a cat suffers a fracture, the main symptoms include lethargy, loss of appetite, reluctance to move, weakness, difficulty in movement, severe pain, edema and ecchymosis at the fracture site, and some cats may even have internal bleeding. It is generally recommended that owners do not arbitrarily move the cat after a fracture, but immediately consult a pet doctor and take the cat to the pet hospital in the correct position for DR examination to determine the fracture site and then formulate a fixation plan.

Fractures in different parts of cats will also have different symptoms, which mainly include the following:

  1. Pelvic Fracture

If a cat has a pelvic fracture, it will exhibit symptoms such as weakness in the hind limbs, no support, reluctance to move, fever, loss of appetite, only drinking water, and some cats may even have internal bleeding. The entire hindquarters of the cat are like a decoration, completely uncontrollable, and severe cases may compress the bladder and rectum, causing the cat to be unable to urinate and defecate voluntarily, with a strong sense of pain.

  1. Limb Bone Fracture

If a cat has a limb bone fracture, it will limp or be unable to walk due to pain.同时,the fracture site will also show symptoms such as edema, swelling, and internal bleeding.

  1. Forelimb Fracture

If a cat has a forelimb fracture, it will be unable to touch the ground, and touching the affected area may cause pain. The cat may also scream, bite or scratch due to pain.

  1. Hind Limb Fracture Symptoms

If a cat has a hind limb fracture, it will show signs of restlessness, screaming, often bearing weight on three limbs or hopping when moving. Inspecting the affected limb can reveal significant changes in the appearance of the fractured limb, with severe swelling at the fracture site above the ankle joint. Within 2-3 days after the fracture, the cat may also have a slight increase in body temperature. If not treated in time, it is prone to suppurative infection.
