Dog Fracture Symptoms

After a dog fracture, symptoms such as pain upon touch, sensitivity, uneven leg load, and reluctance to move will appear.同时,it is also possible to notice abnormal positions of the affected limb, such as shortening, bending, and extension. If the dog's affected limb is allowed to bear weight or undergo passive movement, abnormal activities such as flexion and rotation will occur, and crepitus can be heard at the bone fracture site. Additionally, symptoms such as bleeding, swelling, pain, and limping can be seen.

The symptoms of dog fractures are also related to the location of the bone, and there are mainly two types.

  1. Long Bone Fracture

If it is a long bone fracture, the dog may generally present with inability to stand or severe pain in the affected area. If not handled promptly, it can easily lead to bacterial infection, and symptoms such as edema, hemorrhage, and so on will occur.

  1. Small Bone Fracture at the Joint

If it is a small bone fracture at the joint, there may not be significant clinical symptoms, but there will be a distinct pain response when touching the dog.

The main ways to diagnose the severity of the fracture are DR and CT examinations. It is recommended that owners take their dogs to the vet promptly when symptoms of fracture appear to avoid missing the best treatment time.

Note: After a dog fracture, strict attention must be paid to avoid allowing the dog to engage in vigorous exercise. It is necessary to take the dog to the pet hospital for an X-ray as soon as possible to determine the location and type of fracture, and then decide on the specific surgical plan.
