Symptoms of Canine Bronchitis and Pneumonia
The symptoms of canine bronchitis and pneumonia include difficulty breathing, opening mouth to breathe, some infected puppies may have blue tongue and protruding eyes. On lung auscultation, there may be moist rales or crepitations, and on pulmonary X-ray, varying degrees of increased lung markings can be seen. The dog may have difficulty coughing, presenting with hoarse coughing, and some may cough up frothy sputum.
Treatment for Mild Canine Bronchopneumonia
Antibiotics and sulfonamides can be given to dogs to eliminate inflammation. Dissolving expectorants such as ammonium chloride, hydrochloric acid, apomorphine hydrochloride, dilute hydrochloric acid, glycerin, and distilled water can be administered to help the dog expectorate. Intravenous injections of calcium gluconate and sodium benzoate can be given to prevent the dog from becoming weak. However, pneumonia is a serious disease, so it is recommended to seek medical attention in a timely manner and arrange drug use according to the dog's actual condition.
What to Do if a Dog Has Severe Bronchopneumonia
If a dog has severe pneumonia, injections and medication may no longer be able to control the inflammation. The dog will need hospitalization, during which aerosol therapy and intravenous therapy should be combined. Meanwhile, chest X-rays of the dog are needed to determine the degree of pneumonia and whether there is fluid accumulation and structural damage to the lungs, so as to reasonably administer drugs.
Points to Note for Canine Bronchopneumonia
Pay attention to warmth, disinfection at scheduled times, maintain good air circulation, supplement sufficient water, and do not feed the dog dog food during pneumonia. It is recommended for owners to cook some minced meat porridge. Grind the medicine into powder and mix it with food for the dog to eat. If it is simple pneumonia, it can be cured. The most important thing is body temperature, if the dog has a high fever, it must be controlled, otherwise the lungs will be burnt, leading to respiratory failure, and the cure rate will be very low.
