Treatment methods for feline gastroenteritis
Feline gastroenteritis treatment usually requires corresponding treatment based on the specific cause of the gastroenteritis. As the treatment varies depending on the situation, it is recommended that owners first take their cats to a pet hospital for inspection to determine the cause of the disease before symptomatic treatment. If caused by bacterial infection, general treatment methods include antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs, diarrhea control, and vomiting suppression. If caused by parasite infection, general treatment methods include deworming, anti-inflammatory, and vomiting suppression. If caused by viral infection, intravenous injection therapy is usually required.
- Gastroenteritis caused by bacterial infection
If your cat has gastroenteritis caused by bacterial infection, you can give it oral antibiotics and feed it some pet-specific probiotics, which have the functions of regulating gastrointestinal function and controlling diarrhea. When using probiotics, dissolve them in 37°C warm water for better efficacy. Also, adjust your cat's daily diet, suggesting focusing on easily digestible and warm food, and never feed your cat anything random.
- Gastroenteritis caused by parasite infection
If the gastroenteritis is caused by parasite infection, it is necessary to deworm the cat promptly and control its gastrointestinal inflammation. Common parasites that can cause gastroenteritis include tapeworms, roundworms, trichomonads, and coccidia. Different parasites require different deworming drugs, so it is recommended to choose the appropriate deworming drug after diagnosis.
- Gastroenteritis caused by viral infection
If the gastroenteritis is caused by viral infection, it is necessary to take the cat to the pet hospital for treatment through intravenous injection and needle therapy.
Some common viruses include parvovirus, coronavirus, and rotavirus.
Note: During treatment, it is important to feed your cat reasonably. It is recommended to adopt a feeding principle of less food and more meals to reduce the stimulation of food to your cat's gastrointestinal tract. If your cat has diarrhea, you can also use drugs containing ingredients like kaolin to control diarrhea.
