My cat's body shakes slightly
Shivering and trembling usually indicate fear, which can manifest as a preference for hiding in corners, avoiding intimacy with people, and having a strong sense of caution. This is often due to changes in the environment, the appearance of unfamiliar objects in the house, or being scolded or beaten by the owner. Another possibility is physical pain, which can be detected by touching the cat's body to find the painful spots, as nerve pain can also cause tremors.
How to observe a cat's personality:
- Check the breed: Most cats of each breed have a fixed personality brought about by their breed, such as the English Short Hair being gentle and docile, and the Garfield being intelligent and quiet.
- Observe the cat's behavior: Cats who are aloof often act independently and rarely show affection towards their owners. On the other hand, cats who love to be pampered often seek attention from their owners and enjoy being held.
Signs of a cat being nervous or scared:
- Body arching
- Fluffing up its fur
- Baring its teeth
- Forcefully wagging its tail from side to side
- Sweating paw pads
- Moving the whiskers backward
- Ears standing up
- Narrowing and constricting pupils
- Hiding in places where they can't be easily found
When a cat is nervous or scared, don't rush to comfort it, as it might accidentally hurt you. Instead, calm down and slow down your movements to reduce their anxiety.
How to comfort a cat:
- Offer your cat's favorite treats.
- Use toys that the cat loves to play with.
- Give the cat a hug to make it feel secure, and talk to it gently.
- Gently stroke the cat's chin and neck to calm it down.
If the cat is still unable to calm down, don't force it to be touched, as this can prevent it from getting scratched. Allow it to adapt slowly to its surroundings.
