What are the black spots on cat's skin?

The black spots on a cat's skin may be caused by parasite infections or folliculitis. After a cat is infected with external parasites, the parasites will excrete feces on the cat's hair and skin, resulting in black granular spots. It is recommended that owners promptly apply external parasite control treatments to their cats. Additionally, cats with folliculitis will have black cinder-like secretions, which are caused by skin inflammation or oily diet. Symptomatic treatment is recommended.

1. Parasite Infection

When cats have external parasites, they may exhibit symptoms such as itching and hair loss. External parasite excrement can be found at the root of the cat's hair. It is advised to regularly apply parasite control treatments, usually once a month. Drugs containing selamectin, imidacloprid, and other ingredients can be used. When applying external parasite control treatments, follow the drug instructions and choose an appropriate dosage based on the cat's weight. After treatment, the cat should wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent it from licking the medication.

2. Folliculitis Infection

Cats with folliculitis usually show symptoms such as blackheads, hair loss, and redness and swelling around the follicles. It is recommended to take the cat to a veterinary hospital for a skin scraping examination promptly. After diagnosis, symptomatic treatment should be administered. Folliculitis in cats can be treated with antibiotics, along with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs.

Precautions:

It is advised to feed cats food with low oil content and switch to ceramic feeding utensils. Keep the cat's fur around the mouth dry by wiping it after drinking water. Regularly bathe the cat, depending on the cat's mischief level and hair contamination程度. In summer, cats can be bathed once a month, while in spring, autumn, and winter, they can be bathed every three months.
