What are the symptoms of a kitten accidentally eating cat litter?
Kittens accidentally eating cat litter may show symptoms such as vomiting, constipation, bloody diarrhea, and diarrhea. If the kitten has only eaten a small amount of cat litter, the owner can feed it some probiotics to regulate the intestines and prevent diarrhea. However, if the kitten has eaten a large amount of cat litter and has already developed an obstruction without defecation, it is necessary to take the kitten to the pet hospital as soon as possible for further examination and treatment, such as gastric washing and induced vomiting. If necessary, surgical treatment may be required.
- Vomiting
There are mainly pine cat litter, bentonite cat litter, and tofu cat litter on the market. Generally, these litters will cause fermentation after being eaten, leading to excessive gas in the stomach and causing the cat to vomit.
- Constipation
Because bentonite cat litter is made of earth and is not soluble in water, if a kitten accidentally eats a large amount of bentonite cat litter, it may cause constipation. In severe cases, it can even cause intestinal obstruction in cats, causing them to suffer from abdominal pain.
- Bloody diarrhea
Since the particles of crystal cat litter have corners, if a kitten accidentally eats crystal cat litter, it is likely to scratch the intestines and cause bloody diarrhea.
- Diarrhea
As used cat litter contains a large number of bacteria, kittens are easily infected after eating it, developing into enteritis and then showing symptoms of diarrhea.
