What causes dog vomiting and what drugs should be taken?
There are many reasons for dog vomiting, including food stimulation, bacterial gastroenteritis, and infections by parvovirus and coronavirus. Food stimulation is common, mainly caused by feeding indigestible food or eating cold, excessive food. It is recommended to stop feeding and use digestive enzymes. Vomiting caused by bacterial gastroenteritis, parvovirus, and coronavirus is more serious and it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for related checks and treatment.
1. Food stimulation causing dog vomiting
Usually, dog vomiting is caused by eating cold food, overeating, or eating too fast. It is recommended to stop feeding the dog immediately, and feed a suitable amount of probiotics for adjustment after the dog stops vomiting. It is better to feed dogs with a few small meals daily, and mainly feed dog food as the main diet, avoiding feeding human food.
2. Bacterial gastroenteritis causing dog vomiting
Bacterial gastroenteritis usually causes symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea in dogs. At the beginning, the stool is soft or incomplete, and as the disease progresses, watery diarrhea occurs. Even vomiting and bloody stool may occur when the intestinal mucosa is severely damaged. However, it is necessary to distinguish this disease from parvovirus and coronavirus. If the disease affects the dog's spirit and appetite, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for diagnosis.
3. Vaccination incomplete, vomiting caused by viral diseases
If the dog's vaccines have not been fully administered, it may be caused by viral diseases such as parvovirus and coronavirus.
The early symptoms of dog parvovirus mainly include frequent vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea, and rapid dehydration. The typical characteristic of a dog with parvovirus is to excrete fishy-smelling bloody stool, which can be preliminarily judged according to clinical symptoms. Confirmation requires timely medical examination for infectious disease screening. Dogs with parvovirus need to be treated with interferon, inhibitory proteins, antibiotics, etc.
After a dog is infected with coronavirus, it will have symptoms such as frequent vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Dog coronavirus is mainly transmitted to healthy dogs through the digestive tract and respiratory tract by sick dogs. So do not go outside to contact unfamiliar pets when the dog has not been vaccinated or the vaccine is incomplete. The treatment principles for dog coronavirus are to stop vomiting, stop diarrhea, reduce inflammation, and replenish fluids. It is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment after confirmed infection with coronavirus.
