What's the matter with a cat's red eyes?

Red eyes in cats can be caused by the following reasons:

  1. Foreign object stimulation: Dust, hair, shampoo等 foreign objects can stimulate the eyes and cause them to turn red.

  2. Trichiasis: When eyelashes grow in the wrong direction, they constantly irritate the cat's eyes, causing them to turn red.

  3. Fighting: Fighting with other cats or animals can result in accidental eye injury, leading to red eyes.

  4. Eye inflammation: Such as keratitis, conjunctivitis, etc., which require timely consultation with a pet doctor for medication.

  5. Foreign object stimulation:

If a cat's eyes are stimulated by foreign objects such as dust, hair, or shampoo, they will turn red. To deal with this, the owner can rinse the cat's eyes with physiological saline or use a cotton swab to remove the foreign object. If the cat's eyes are always red, it is necessary to take the cat to the pet hospital for treatment.

  1. Trichiasis:

If a cat has trichiasis, its eyes will be irritated constantly, causing them to turn red. If the condition is not severe and the cat is willing to be touched, tweezers can be used to pull out the eyelashes. However, if the trichiasis is more severe, it is necessary to take the cat to the pet hospital for eyelash correction surgery.

  1. Fighting:

Fighting with other cats or animals can result in accidental eye injury, leading to red eyes. In this case, the owner needs to carefully observe whether there are any obvious external injuries on the cat's eyes. If not, drop an inflammatory eye drop into the cat's eyes. If there are still obvious external injuries, cleaning the wounds is also required, and the cat should be fitted with an Elizabeth collar to prevent it from scratching itself.

  1. Eye inflammation:

A cat's red eyes may also be caused by eye inflammation, such as keratitis and conjunctivitis. It is accompanied by symptoms such as tears, pain, and reluctance to open the eyes. This usually requires treatment with eye ointments or eye drops that are effective against eye inflammation in cats. It is recommended to consult a pet doctor in a timely manner and avoid using medication blindly.
