What's going on with my dog's shaking belly?
Your dog's shaking belly may be caused by shock, internal parasite infection, pregnancy, respiratory diseases, or other reasons. If your dog is simply shaking its belly without any other abnormalities, there's generally no major problem, and you don't need to be too worried. However, if your dog is shaking its belly along with symptoms such as depression, sneezing, runny nose, loss of appetite, rapid breathing, coughing, etc., it's time to take action. It is recommended to take your dog to the pet hospital as soon as possible to check the cause and treat it accordingly.
- Shock
When a dog is scared, its belly will shake, which is a manifestation of its stress response. In this case, all you need to do is comfort and accompany your dog more, and you can also give it some of its favorite snacks or toys to console it. Once your dog's emotions stabilize, it will naturally recover.
- Internal Parasite Infection
When a dog is infected with internal parasites, the parasites' movement will cause the dog's abdominal muscles to contract, making its belly shake. You can see the eggs or parasites in your dog's feces. At this time, it is recommended to consult a pet doctor and choose safe and effective internal deworming drugs for your dog.
- Pregnancy
If your female dog has reached sexual and physical maturity, a shaking belly may also be a sign of pregnancy. Because a dog may have fetal movement about one month into pregnancy, its belly will shake. This is a normal reaction, and you don't need to worry too much. Just regularly check your dog's pregnancy progress.
- Respiratory Diseases
If your dog has respiratory diseases, it may use its belly to enhance breathing, causing its belly to shake. In addition to a shaking belly, dogs with respiratory diseases may also show symptoms such as depression, sneezing, runny nose, loss of appetite, rapid breathing, coughing, etc. Severe cases may even experience difficulty breathing, hemoptysis, and even suffocate to death. Therefore, if you discover these symptoms in your dog, you should immediately seek inspection to determine the specific cause and proceed with appropriate treatment.
