What to do if your cat has a cold
Take your cat to the pet hospital: If your cat has a cold, it's recommended to take it to the pet hospital for inspection to determine if it's a common cold or a viral cold. The treatment and medication vary depending on the type of cold, and a viral cold can spread between pets. Therefore, after your cat gets a cold, isolate it from other pets and take it to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment promptly. If the cat's cold is not treated in time, the condition may develop into bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.
- Common Cold
If your cat has a common cold, you can feed it pet-specific cold medications. Do not use human medications, as this can easily lead to drug poisoning and harm your cat's health. Additionally, you need to take care of your cat during its illness, such as providing warm and clean cotton pads, ensuring a warm living environment, and so on.
- Viral Cold
If your cat has a viral cold, take it to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment promptly, and give it antiviral drugs based on the specific cause. For example, if the cold-like symptoms are caused by herpesvirus infection, cat interferon and other medications are required. Moreover, since viral colds can spread between pets, if you have multiple cats at home, you need to isolate the healthy cats from the sick ones until the cat's cold is completely recovered.
Note: During your cat's cold, pay attention to keeping it warm. You can also give it more water and nutritional supplements to boost its immunity. Do not bathe your cat until it fully recovers from the cold.
