What to do if your dog doesn't want to take a bath

If your dog is hesitant to take baths, you can try the following methods:

  1. Brush and massage your dog before bathing to alleviate its fear.

  2. Encourage your dog with treats, so it associates bath time with benefits.

  3. Distract your dog with toys and take advantage of its momentary distraction to bathe it.

  4. Adjust your bathing method and pay attention to the water temperature; gradually acclimate your dog to bathing.

  5. Brush and Massage Before Bathing

Some dogs are unwilling to take baths due to nervousness. To help your dog feel more at ease during bath time, you can gently brush its fur and give it a massage. This will not only alleviate its fear but also help remove dirt from its fur and promote blood circulation. Be sure to hold the base of the fur with one hand while brushing with the other to minimize discomfort.

  1. Encourage with Treats

Many dogs are afraid of water and refuse to take baths. In this case, you can use treats to motivate them. Reward your dog with food before and after each bath, so it learns that bath time has its benefits. This will make your dog more cooperative during future baths.

  1. Distract with Toys

If you have a variety of toys at home, you can place some of your dog's favorites in the bathwater. Let your dog play with the toys first, and once its attention is occupied, sneak in and give it a bath.

  1. Adjust the Bathing Method

When giving your dog a bath, be sure to proceed gradually and pay attention to the water temperature. A temperature of 35 to 38 degrees Celsius is ideal, as it's closest to your dog's body temperature and will make the experience more comfortable. Start washing from their feet and gradually work your way up, which is better than directly spraying water on their head.
