What to pay attention to when bathing dogs
When bathing dogs, pay attention to the following aspects:
- The dog's age should be at least 3 months old and have completed the vaccination schedule, with antibody levels reaching the acceptable level.
- Choose a warm day for the bath and make sure to dry and blow-dry the dog immediately after the bath.
- Use a pet-specific shampoo for bathing. The water temperature should not be too high, and bathing frequency should not be too frequent.
Usually, when bathing dogs, we need to pay attention to the following points:
- The dog must be at least 3 months old, in good health, and have completed the three-dose vaccine and rabies vaccine. The dog should also have undergone internal and external parasite control, and have acceptable antibody levels. It is only then that we recommend bathing and grooming the dog. Dogs that have not completed the vaccine schedule or have not undergone parasite control have weak resistance and immunity. Bathing them can lead to a decrease in immunity, causing minor issues like colds, or major issues like infections with viruses such as distemper, parvovirus, and coronavirus.
- Choose a nice midday when the weather is warm to bathe the dog. Make sure to dry the dog's fur after the bath to avoid catching a cold. Do not bathe the dog too frequently, as the dog's skin has a layer of protective oil. Frequent bathing can cause the skin to dry out, make the fur rough, lose its luster, become prone to breakage, itch, and even lead to skin infections.
- Whenever the dog needs a bath or grooming, it's best to take it to a professional pet grooming salon. Bring your own dog's grooming supplies, such as pet shampoo, towels, and electric clippers, to avoid mixing with other dogs and preventing the spread of skin diseases.
- If the pet owner wants to bathe the dog at home, pay attention to the temperature of the bath water. Adjust the temperature according to the season: 36-38 degrees Celsius in summer and around 40 degrees Celsius in winter. After the bath, make sure to dry or wipe the dog's fur promptly to prevent catching a cold or developing skin problems.
