What to do if your dog has roundworms in its stomach

If your dog has roundworms in its stomach, it is generally treated with deworming drugs containing ingredients such as milbemycin, fenbendazole, and abendazole. Due to the characteristics of roundworms, some internal deworming drugs can only kill adult worms and not eggshells, so it is recommended to feed once a week for three consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, it's important to clean up your dog's feces promptly. If you find roundworms in the feces, dispose of them in the toilet and flush away, then disinfect your dog's living environment thoroughly.

Common deworming drugs for dogs with roundworms:

Developed with milbemycin, fenbendazole, and abendazole components, common brands include Baytril and Vectra 3D.

Usage:

First, strictly follow the drug instructions and your dog's weight to determine the dosage. Generally, it is recommended to administer once a week for three consecutive weeks, followed by monthly use.

It is suggested to feed half an hour after the dog eats, placing the tablet at the base of the dog's tongue allowing it to swallow naturally. If the dog vomits, you can mix the tablet in dog food, such as cans or freeze-dried treats, and feed it again.

Precautions:

After deworming, your dog may experience mild vomiting, diarrhea, and other symptoms, which are normal reactions. Don't worry, you can feed your dog an appropriate amount of probiotics, and it usually takes 1 to 2 days to recover.

In addition to using deworming drugs, timely cleaning of your dog's feces is necessary, as well as thorough disinfection of its living environment and items used.

If you find roundworms in your dog's feces, kill them with a disinfectant and flush them into the toilet to prevent reinfection.

When a dog is infected with roundworms, it may also be mixed with infections of tapeworms, coccidia, and other parasites. Therefore, it is best to have a fecal examination at the hospital. If coccidia is found, drugs containing ingredients such as sulfadimidine and pyrimethamine can be used.
