What should I do if my dog vomits and shivers?
Dog vomiting and shivering may be caused by long-term hunger, poisoning, parasite infection, or infectious diseases. Whatever the reason, this situation is particularly dangerous for dogs. Therefore, it is recommended that owners take their dogs to the pet hospital as soon as they notice the symptoms. Based on the examination results, symptomatic treatment should be given. Otherwise, the dog's life may be at risk at any time.
- Long-term hunger:
If a dog hasn't eaten for a long time, excessive stomach acid will cause vomiting of yellow water, and it can also cause hypoglycemia, leading to shivering. In this case, the owner can feed the dog a small amount of warm water and glucose to alleviate the symptoms. Then take the dog to the pet hospital to find out the specific cause and treat it accordingly.
- Poisoning:
Dogs exposed to poison will also experience vomiting of white foam and shivering. This is accompanied by symptoms such as drooling, rapid breathing, and weak limbs. If not treated in time, the dog may fall into a coma or even die. Therefore, if a dog shows symptoms of vomiting white foam and shivering, take it to the pet hospital for emergency treatment.
- Parasite infection:
If a dog has a large number of parasites in its body, the parasites' movement in the gastrointestinal tract can cause vomiting and sometimes intermittent abdominal pain. As a result, the dog shivers. The owner can see the parasites in the dog's vomit or feces. This indicates a severe parasite infection, and it is necessary to consult a pet doctor and choose an appropriate deworming drug.
- Infection with infectious diseases:
If the dog is young and hasn't been vaccinated, it may be caused by vomiting and shivering due to infections such as parvovirus or distemper virus. This is usually accompanied by symptoms such as lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing. If you suspect this situation, immediately isolate the dog and take it to the pet hospital for treatment to prevent other healthy dogs from being infected.
