Why is my dog burping and vomiting?

Dog burping and vomiting may be due to overfeeding or eating too fast, or it may be caused by accidental ingestion of foreign objects such as plastic, bones, and stones, which lead to intestinal blockage. In addition, if your dog vomits frequently, along with symptoms such as depression, loss of appetite, and diarrhea, it is also necessary to consider infections, gastrointestinal inflammation, or gastric ulcers. It is difficult to determine the exact cause based on symptoms alone, so it is recommended that owners take their dogs to a pet hospital for inspection and treatment as soon as they notice these symptoms.

  1. Eating too much or too fast

If a dog eats too much or too fast during mealtime, it may experience physiological burping, vomiting, and abdominal bloating. In this case, the dog usually vomits undigested food and may continue to eat. Therefore, it is recommended to fasting the dog and giving it some digestive enzymes and probiotics to promote gastrointestinal motility, bowel movement, and reduce the burden on the gastrointestinal tract.

  1. Intestinal obstruction

When a dog accidentally swallows foreign objects such as plastic, bones, and stones, which cannot be digested and absorbed by dogs, it may cause severe intestinal obstruction, leading to symptoms such as burping and vomiting. Therefore, owners should recall whether their dogs have ingested any foreign objects and take them to the pet hospital as soon as possible for ultrasound or X-ray examinations to determine the location of the foreign objects and treat them through surgery or other methods.

  1. Infection with infectious diseases

If a young dog that has not completed its vaccinations continues to burp and vomit persistently, it is likely to be infected with infectious diseases such as distemper, parvovirus, and coronavirus. These viral diseases have a high mortality rate for dogs, so if this is suspected, it is necessary to go to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment promptly.

  1. Gastroenteritis or gastric ulcers

If the dog's vomit is red and accompanied by symptoms such as depression, loss of appetite, and bloody diarrhea, it is necessary to consider whether it is caused by gastroenteritis or gastric ulcers. In this case, it is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital immediately to avoid further exacerbation of the condition.
