What's going on when a dog poops white?
Usually, a dog pooping white excrement is related to poor diet. It may be due to eating too many bones or drinking too much milk. Additionally, it could be related to a health problem, such as jaundice, gallstones, or tumors, which cause gallbladder obstruction, preventing the excretion of bile, and resulting in white stool. If your dog has been pooping white for a long time, it's recommended to take it to a pet hospital for inspection and treatment to avoid delaying the illness.
- Eating too many bones
If your dog poops white after eating bones, it's probably due to consuming too many bones. The calcified substances in bones cannot be absorbed, so the dog poops white, which is actually the residue of the bones. This usually isn't a big problem. Just make sure to feed your dog regular dog food later, and the color of the stool should return to normal. However, this type of stool is usually dry and difficult to pass, which can lead to constipation. It's recommended to feed your dog fewer bones.
- Drinking too much milk
Some dogs are lactose intolerant, and drinking too much milk can easily cause intestinal discomfort and lead to white stool. This type of stool is usually soft, and in severe cases, it may even have diarrhea and vomiting. If this is the case, it's recommended not to give your dog milk in the future. Even if the dog doesn't have an adverse reaction to milk, it's still a large molecule that the dog has difficulty absorbing enough nutrients from. Long-term inappropriate feeding can cause malnutrition and absorption disorders.
- Illness
If a dog has a gallbladder obstruction disease, such as jaundice, gallstones, or tumors, it can cause bile to not be excreted normally, resulting in white stool. If you suspect your dog is sick, take it to a pet hospital promptly. The doctor will prescribe medication based on the examination results.
