What to do when your cat keeps panting due to heat

Immediate measures to cool down your cat:

  1. If your cat is outdoors, immediately bring it to a shaded and well-ventilated area, and provide it with plenty of water.

  2. If your cat is indoors, turn on air conditioning or fans to lower the ambient temperature. You can also wrap ice blocks in a towel and gently rub them on your cat's neck, armpits, and inner thighs to help lower its body temperature.

  3. If the cat shows no signs of improvement after treatment, take it to a nearby pet hospital immediately.

  4. Move your cat to a shaded and well-ventilated area

If your cat is outdoors and panting due to heat, quickly bring it to a shaded and well-ventilated area and provide it with ample water to help it cool down.

  1. Turn on air conditioning or fans to cool down

If your cat is indoors, utilize air conditioning or fans to lower the temperature. Note that if using air conditioning, do not set the temperature too low (usually around 26 degrees Celsius is appropriate) to avoid your cat catching a cold. Also, do not let your cat stay in the air conditioning for extended periods; instead, introduce fresh air. If using fans to cool the environment, do not directly point the fan at the cat and ensure your cat does not spend prolonged periods lying on the floor to prevent diarrhea.

  1. Wrap ice blocks in a towel and rub them on your cat's body

If possible, wrap ice blocks in a towel and gently rub them on your cat's neck, armpits, and inner thighs to help lower its body temperature. You can also prepare an ice pad for your cat to sleep on, which will have a similar cooling effect.

CAUTION:

To prevent your cat from overheating, trim its hair on the bottom of its feet during hot weather to increase heat dissipation and encourage it to drink more water. Also, open windows or use fans to circulate air, thereby reducing the ambient temperature.
