What to feed a shaking dog with unstable limbs
When a small dog exhibits shaking limbs and instability, the first thing to consider is the cause, and then the issue of medication for the dog. There are five main factors that can cause a dog to shake and be unstable on its feet, including environmental factors, nutritional factors, congenital factors, pathological factors, and toxic reactions caused by accidental ingestion.
- Environmental factors
The personality of a dog is closely related to its environment and its first owner. If the owner is short-tempered and often scares or even beats the dog, the dog will immediately produce a stress response when it sees the owner or similar actions that indicate the owner is about to discipline it, such as shaking limbs. This is caused by convulsions. In this case, improving the dog's living environment can resolve the instability.
- Nutritional factors
Dogs are considered adults at one year old, and their growth period is rapid, with quick development of their limbs. Therefore, their growth requires high nutritional intake. If a dog is malnourished, it can lead to muscle weakness, and if it lacks calcium, it can cause poor bone development. Choosing food that provides comprehensive nutrition, as well as supplementing calcium, trace elements, and vitamins, can improve the dog's condition.
- Congenital factors
Some puppies have congenital developmental issues, which can be attributed to various causes, such as incomplete development in the mother's womb or accidental medication use by the dog's mother during pregnancy. These can lead to incomplete neural development in the puppy, resulting in instability and even seizures. Dogs with this condition can be treated with anticonvulsant medication.
- Pathological factors
Some puppies have contracted distemper in their early years, which can cause neural damage in the later stages and is irreparable. These dogs require long-term administration of epilepsy medication such as Valium to alleviate symptoms.
- Toxic reactions
After accidentally ingesting toxins, some dogs exhibit a series of neurotic symptoms, such as shaking and instability, along with frothing at the mouth. In this case, the priority is to detoxify the dog, and only then can the issue of shaking be resolved.
