What's going on when a dog sneezes?
Dog sneezing can be divided into physiological and pathological causes. Physiological reasons mainly refer to the intake of cold air or other foreign objects, which suddenly cause the dog to have a sneezing fit with a low frequency. Pathological causes mainly consider upper respiratory infections and allergies, etc. It is recommended to take the dog to a pet hospital for further examination and treatment in a timely manner.
There are many causes of dog sneezing, and the etiology is generally judged based on the frequency of sneezing and other accompanying symptoms. If the dog's sneezing frequency is low, usually one to two times a day, and there are no other symptoms, it is mainly considered to be physiological reasons, such as inhaling cold air or foreign objects like hair and dust. In this case, no excessive treatment is needed, and it is recommended to ensure air cleanliness to reduce the stimulation of foreign objects to the dog's nose.
If the dog's sneezing frequency is high and symptoms such as runny nose appear, it may be due to allergies or upper respiratory infections. Among them, allergies are a relatively uncommon disease, mainly caused by the dog's contact with allergens. In this case, it is recommended to optimize the dog's living environment, such as avoiding new furniture, and use some anti-allergic drugs.
Upper respiratory infections are mainly caused by bacterial or viral infections. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics containing amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium or drugs specifically designed for viral infections. For the above symptoms caused by viral infections, it is recommended to use traditional Chinese medicine with antiviral properties, along with antibacterial drugs to control secondary infections. If the dog shows symptoms above due to infection with canine distemper virus or canine parainfluenza virus, it is necessary to take the dog to a pet hospital for scientific treatment.
