When can puppies switch dog food?
Puppies can switch to adult dog food when they are about two months old. However, at this stage, they cannot directly eat dry dog food. Instead, you should soak the dog food with warm water (about 40 degrees Celsius) or goat's milk to make it soft before feeding it to the puppies. Additionally, add some probiotics to the dog food to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort in the puppies. After a week of eating softened dog food, you can gradually switch to normal dog food.
Puppies usually start teething about 20 days after birth and have all their teeth by the time they are two months old. This is when you can start switching to adult dog food.
Due to their poor digestion and chewing abilities, puppies cannot immediately switch to dry dog food after weaning. Instead, they need to continue eating softened dog food for a while to allow their stomachs to adapt. Then, at the age of 4-5 months, you can switch them to dry food entirely.
If a puppy's digestion is particularly fragile, you can feed them probiotics for a period during the transition to help with digestion and absorption. Also, it is recommended to follow a feeding schedule of smaller meals throughout the day instead of feeding in large quantities at once, to avoid triggering indigestion or other related issues.
Note: When switching dog food, make sure to do so gradually, mixing new and old dog food until the puppy is fully adapted to the new diet. Always monitor the puppy's condition and avoid any sudden changes that could lead to diarrhea or other complications.
