When do dogs get heatstroke?

Heatstroke is easily occurs in hot and humid environments, closed spaces, direct sunlight, and after intense physical activity. Dogs with dark fur, cardiovascular disease or respiratory diseases, short-nosed breeds, and overweight dogs are more susceptible to heatstroke.

Due to the hot and humid summer weather, many pet owners like to keep their dogs overweight, and popular breeds such as French Bulldogs and Persians with short noses are in vogue. Therefore, heatstroke has always been a common case in the emergency room of summer pet hospitals.


Causes of Heatstroke:

  1. Placing pets in closed vehicles without air conditioning is a common cause of heatstroke.

  2. Taking dogs out for play and intense exercise in hot summer days can easily lead to heatstroke in dogs.

  3. In the hot summer, not providing enough drinking water for dogs can cause heatstroke.

  4. In closed indoor spaces and dog cages with high temperatures and poor ventilation.

  5. Overweight dogs with dense fur are more susceptible to heatstroke.

  6. Placing dogs on balconies, long-term exposure to high temperatures without shade, is the easiest way to cause heatstroke in dogs.
