When do puppies learn to walk?

Generally speaking, puppies can start walking about 20 days after birth, and they can walk relatively steadily around one month old. However, the specific time when puppies learn to walk may vary depending on their individual physical condition. Some weaker puppies may not learn to walk until they are one month old.

Newly born puppies are fragile and need careful attention from the mother dog and their owners. They should not be placed in cold environments, and attention should be paid to cleanliness and hygiene. The mother dog's nutrition should also be supplemented to ensure the puppies' nutrition. During this period, puppies are susceptible to infections due to poor nutrition, cold, or unsanitary conditions, which can lead to their demise.

After the puppies open their eyes, care should be taken to avoid direct sunlight. Their eyes are very fragile at this stage. As they grow older, around 21 days, they will begin to stumble and learn to crawl. During this period, it is appropriate to supplement the puppies' calcium intake to prevent skeletal problems. It is also important to note that placing puppies on high surfaces can lead to falls, so it is best to wait until they are older, about a month, when they can walk steadily. During this period, the owner needs to pay attention to the dog's bone development. If there are any abnormal movements, it is best to consult a veterinarian at a pet hospital.

During this period, puppies who are weaned early will have basically stopped nursing. For those who are weaned later, they can be weaned around 40 days. This period before weaning is also the optimal time to foster the puppies' physical development, so owners are advised to take good care of them.
