What are the reasons why a cat cannot urinate?

A cat that cannot urinate may be due to insufficient water intake, stress, such as suddenly changing to a new environment or being scared, or other factors. Additionally, if the cat has urinary system diseases, it may exhibit symptoms such as frequent visits to the litter box, urinary pain, and urinary obstruction. To check if the cat's bladder is full, touch it gently. If it is relatively full, take the cat to the pet hospital as soon as possible for diagnosis and treatment to avoid delaying the illness.

  1. Insufficient water intake

If the cat's diet is relatively dry and it drinks little water, there may not be enough water in the body to carry out metabolism, thus preventing the formation of urine to be excreted. In this case, the owner should encourage the cat to drink more water or feed it high-water-content fruits and vegetables to help replenish the water needed by the cat's body and promote the formation of urine.

  1. Stress-induced

If the cat experiences significant stress, such as suddenly changing to a new environment, hearing loud noises, or having unfamiliar people in the house, it may become so tense that it cannot urinate. In this case, the owner can try to comfort the cat or give it some space to see if there will be an improvement.

  1. Urinary system diseases

If the cat has a frequent urge to urinate but cannot urine, it may be due to urinary tract infections, cystitis, kidney inflammation, urethral stones, bladder stones, kidney stones, or bladder paralysis等 urinary system diseases. In this case, it is recommended to take the cat to a nearby pet hospital immediately for examination by X-ray, urinalysis, complete blood count, biochemistry, etc., to determine the specific condition of the cat's urinary system and take corresponding treatment measures according to the situation.
