Why do cat's ears have a crease?

There are mainly three reasons for the crease in a cat's ear: first,先天性的生理结构,被称为袋耳或亨利小袋,这是正常的,不必过于担心。Second, the cat's ear has been bitten, causing the edge of the ear to split. In this case, it is necessary to clean the wound in time, and then apply antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents. Third, the cat has been ear-clipped. This is a mark left by animal welfare organizations in society to prevent stray cats from continuing to multiply. After neutering, they are tagged by cutting the ear.

  1. Innate physiological structure

Some cat ears are naturally split, which is a normal physiological structure, known as bag ear or Henry's small bag. This structure enables cats to hear high-frequency sounds that humans cannot hear, which is beneficial for them to hunt in wild environments and accurately judge the location of prey. Note that not all cats necessarily have bag ears, so owners need to make some judgments.

  1. Ear bites

If a cat's ear is bitten by another animal, it may also have a crease, but this is different from the normal structure and usually has obvious injury marks. If not treated promptly, the natural wound on the ear will usually form a permanent crease. Therefore, if this is the case, immediately rinse the cat's wound with physiological saline, squeeze out the blood from the wound, disinfect with iodine alcohol, and apply antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs. Finally, fit the cat with an Elizabethan collar to prevent it from licking and scratching the wound.

  1. Ear clipping

If a stray cat has a crease in its ear, it may be due to ear clipping. Because the number of stray cats grows rapidly each year, animal welfare organizations in society neuter them to control the population and cut the ears as a marker of sterilization. Male cats have their left ear cut, and female cats have their right ear cut to prevent secondary sterilization injuries.
