Why does my cat's fart smell so bad?

It is a normal phenomenon for cats to occasionally pass gas with a bad smell, but if they frequently do so, owners should pay attention. The cause may be due to eating too fast, mental stress, poor quality of cat food, indigestion, hairball syndrome, or other reasons. At this point, the owner needs to judge the specific reason for the bad smell of the cat's fart and then take targeted measures. If unable to judge by oneself, consult a pet doctor in a timely manner.

  1. Eating too fast

If a cat eats too fast, it may inhale a large amount of gas, which will result in a smelly fart when it passes through the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, owners should reasonably arrange feeding times, preferably feeding at fixed times and locations, and try to maintain a habit of eating small amounts frequently. As cats are greedy eaters, allowing them to eat freely may lead to overeating and even vomiting.

  1. Mental stress

When a cat is under mental stress, it can cause disruptions in normal gastrointestinal peristalsis. The cat's food may not be fully digested, resulting in more waste gas production than usual, hence the smelly fart. Therefore, owners should avoid causing stress to their cats in daily life and spend more time with them to alleviate their stress.

  1. Poor quality of cat food

If the cat food rich in plant protein, such as soybeans, peanuts, corn, etc., it can easily cause indigestion in cats, increasing gas production during digestion, and resulting in smelly farts. To address this, owners can try switching to a better quality of cat food or feed their cats probiotics to regulate their gastrointestinal tract. Note that when switching cat food, follow a gradual approach to allow the cat's digestive system to adapt to the new food slowly.

  1. Indigestion

Cats with indigestion have insufficient gastrointestinal peristalsis, causing food to stay in the gastrointestinal tract for too long, over-fermenting, and not being excreted promptly. This can lead to smelly farts. Owners should promptly adjust their cat's diet and feed them an appropriate amount of probiotics to help regulate their gastrointestinal tract.

  1. Hairball syndrome

When cats suffer from hairball syndrome, the hairball can block their intestines, affecting normal peristalsis. As food accumulates in the intestines, it can cause the cat to pass smelly gas. The fastest way to treat this is to feed the cat some hair removal gel, allowing it to expel the hairball smoothly and healthily. Additionally, feeding the cat specialized probiotics for pets can help regulate their gastrointestinal tract, improve the gastrointestinal environment, and alleviate vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite caused by hairball syndrome.
