Why do cats suddenly bite or attack humans?
Cats suddenly bite or attack humans for various reasons, including long-term petting or touching sensitive areas, sudden fright, and rabies.
- Being petted for a long time or touching sensitive areas:
Cats' emotions change quickly. If a cat initially responds happily to being petted but suddenly bites, it's likely because the petting has gone on for too long or has touched a sensitive area, causing discomfort. This bite is a warning, and the owner should immediately stop petting the cat to prevent it from getting angry.
- Sudden fright:
After being scared, cats will bite and attack humans out of self-defense, especially if they are not used to going outside. In this case, if the cat hasn't been neutered, considering neutering it could help improve its temperament. Also, using calming agents in the environment can help alleviate the cat's tension and fear.
- Rabies:
Cats infected with rabies may also suddenly bite humans. Symptoms include drooling from the mouth, red and moist conjunctiva, loud screaming, photophobia, and hydrophobia. Owners should pay attention to observe if there are any signs of suspected rabies infection, and promptly stay away from the cat and seek help from professionals.
