Why do dogs get fleas?

Fleas on a dog are usually caused by improper breeding environment and lack of regular external parasite prevention. Of course, playing with a dog that has fleas can also lead to infection. If fleas are not thoroughly eradicated in a timely manner, they will suck the dog's blood, causing the dog pain, as well as leading to restlessness, skin biting, and even anemia in severe cases.

Fleas are external parasites that live on the dog's body. When fleas are found on a dog, it is usually caused by one of the following reasons.

  1. Inappropriate breeding environment

When a dog's living environment is dirty, damp, or poorly ventilated, it is prone to flea infections. Therefore, dog owners should keep their pets' living environments dry, clean, and well-ventilated. Additionally, regularly disinfecting the dog's living space and exposing it to sunlight for about 12 hours can help prevent fleas to some extent.

  1. Lack of regular external parasite prevention

If dog owners do not regularly protect their dogs against external parasites, fleas can attach to the dog's body. Therefore, owners should regularly administer external parasite prevention to their dogs. It is generally recommended to give dogs an external parasite prevention treatment once a month, using parasite control products containing non-泼罗尼,塞拉菌素,吡虫啉等成分. Additionally, flea bites can also spread diseases and parasites, so internal parasite prevention should be administered simultaneously.

  1. Infection from other dogs

Fleas can spread to other pets through jumping, so if a dog plays with a dog that has fleas, it can become infected. It is recommended to avoid letting dogs interact with unfamiliar pets outside and to regularly administer preventive parasite treatments.

Note: Dogs should not be bathed for three days before and after administering external parasite prevention, as this will affect the efficacy of the medication. Additionally, the dog's hair should be parted before applying the parasite control product directly to the skin.
