Why do dogs not like to drink water?
Dogs may not like to drink water because the water is not fresh or their bodies are not dehydrated, so they don't want to drink water. It may also be because their owners usually feed them beverages or bone broth that humans drink, causing the dogs to be picky eaters and dislike drinking tasteless water. In addition, if the dog not only dislikes drinking water but also shows signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, and other symptoms, it may be sick. It is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital as soon as possible for a checkup.
- Water is not fresh
Dogs have very sensitive senses of smell. If their drinking water and utensils are contaminated or have a strange smell, they will refuse to drink water. To address this, owners can check if the dog's water bowl and drinking water are clean. If not, they should prepare clean and hygienic drinking water for their dogs and get into the habit of changing the water regularly.
- The body is not dehydrated
If the dog usually eats wet food or softened dog food, these foods already contain a large amount of water, so the dog will develop a dislike for drinking water. There is no need to worry too much about this because the dog has already consumed enough water through their food.
- Picky eating
Some owners like to feed their dogs beverages or bone broth that humans drink. Because these drinks and broths have flavor, the dog may become picky and dislike drinking tasteless water over time. If this is the case, owners should pay attention and stop this behavior immediately.
- Sickness
Dogs will also stop eating and drinking when they are sick. Owners should observe their dogs carefully. If the dog shows signs of lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., in addition to not liking to drink water, it's time to take the dog to the pet hospital for a checkup and treatment.
