Why does a dog's tongue lean to one side?
There are several reasons why a dog's tongue leans to one side:
High ambient temperature: Since dogs have poor heat dissipation abilities, they will stick out their tongues to help dissipate heat through the saliva on their tongues.
Thirst: Dogs may lean their tongues to one side when they feel thirsty, such as after intense physical activity or eating salty food.
poisoning: Some nerves are paralyzed and lose control, making it impossible for the tongue to retract, causing it to lean to one side.
High environmental temperature
Due to the inability of dog skin to dissipate heat, dogs can only dissipate heat through their paws and tongues. Therefore, when the ambient temperature is high, dogs will stick out their tongues and lean them to one side to assist in heat dissipation, which is a normal phenomenon. All the owner needs to do is move the dog to a shady and well-ventilated place and prepare enough water for the dog to rest for a moment before it recovers.
- Thirst
When a dog has intense physical activity or eats salty food, it may feel thirsty and lean its tongue to one side. At this time, it is necessary to promptly supplement water for the dog to prevent dehydration. Also, do not feed dogs with human food or overly salty food, as this can lead to severe hair loss, tear stains, and even skin diseases. It is better to feed dogs with lighter foods.
- Poisoning
After poisoning, some nerves of the dog are paralyzed and lose control, causing the tongue to lean to one side. This phenomenon is accompanied by seizures, foaming at the mouth, diarrhea, and abnormal behavior. If these abnormal symptoms are found, it is recommended to immediately take the dog to a pet hospital for vomiting treatment to avoid life-threatening situations.
